About Craft Math Calculators
Last updated June 9, 2026
Quilting, knitting, and cross-stitch all funnel into one question — how much do I need? — and the answer is always geometry plus an allowance: seams, shrinkage, gauge, repeats. The calculators here do that geometry with the allowances out where you can see and change them.
On the cutting table
6 calculators cover the estimating: Fabric Yardage Calculator, Quilt Binding Calculator, Knitting Gauge Calculator, Knitting Yarn Calculator, Cross Stitch Fabric Calculator, and Quilt Backing Calculator.
The allowances are the whole game
A binding calculator is trivial until it accounts for joining seams and mitered corners; a yarn estimate is useless without your actual swatch gauge. Every tool states which allowances it adds, how large they are, and lets you adjust them to match your pattern.
Swatch first
No estimator replaces a test swatch. These are material estimates, not project instructions — gauge, fabric width, and pattern specifics vary, so make a swatch and double-check before you cut.
Mistakes, brought to light
If a formula here produces a bad cut, that’s worth knowing about. Email corrections@craftmathcalc.com and the math gets re-checked.
